Rutgers License for work in Cuba
Global Programs holds an academic from the U.S. Department of the Treasury, authorizing Rutgers students, staff and faculty to travel to
Cuba under the University's auspices. This license is valid for use by
the entire university. With restrictions, the Rutgers license authorizes travel to Cuba for the purposes of student research, for formal study at a Cuban institution or in a structured educational program as part of a course offered by an accredited U.S. college or university, and for teaching at a Cuban institution. It also authorizes Rutgers to sponsor Cuban scholars in the U.S., including payment of a stipend or salary.
As the Bush Administration has tightened the regulations significantly in recent months, all Rutgers faculty, students and staff wishing to obtain authorization for Cuba travel and additional information on allowable activities should first look at the Department of Treasury website.
If you feel your project or program applies, please contact the director of Global Programs, Dr. Seth Gopin, Gopin@rutgers.edu.
Applicants wishing to use the Rutgers license will need to provide information pertaining to their planned activities in Cuba, dates of their stay, and proof of their Rutgers affiliation. If approved, they are will be required to sign a "licensee agreement" (supplied by Global
Program) stating that they understand, and will comply with, the provisions of the license. Students must also obtain a brief statement of support from their faculty sponsors or advisors.
