BCT Partners provides professional development training and project support to specialized pool of consultants working with the HHS ACF Children’s Bureau National Capacity Building Center for States (the “Center”). The pool consists of family consultants whose expertise comes from personal experience as birth, foster, adoptive, and kinship parents involved in the child welfare system, as well as professional experience advocating for parents and families on the local and state levels.
BCT is responsible for ensuring the family consultants are prepared to provide technical assistance and training to state child welfare agencies in order to achieve better outcomes for children, youth, and families. In this effort, the project team has provided professional development training to nineteen (19) family consultants, utilizing subject matter experts in the delivery of virtual and in-person trainings on child welfare-related subject areas relevant to the Center’s capacity building services.
The work has included the development of a competency framework, formal assessments of trainings needs, development and implementation of individualized training plans, delivery of customized virtual coaching, creation of a consultant toolkit (including tip sheets), and development and maintenance of an online Community of Practice. The team has also conducted formal evaluations, utilizing online surveys and telephone interviews, to measure the effectiveness of all trainings.
BCT has provided project support to the Center in addition to professional develop training. Project support has included contracting, invoicing, and coordination of travel logistics. The team has also utilized Adobe Connect and other video conferencing platforms to coordinate conference calls in support of the project.
